Exploring my own Hmong culture, language, and history as an influence and inspiration, these altered chain links become the different ways of relations that create a bridge that joins everything together, from one piece to another. I began to discover what I could do to connect myself with my father and my family through metals and jewelry. Losing my father and unknown to who he was, these pieces are created through the longing and yearning of someone in grievance. These altered chains and links become the different ways of relations that create a bridge that joins everything together, from one piece to another. These traditional Hmong patterns and textiles became an important part of the work because of the repetition, beauty, and appreciation of traditional Hmong embroidery and using them as an inspiration and connection to many segments of my life.
